📖 Lesson: Present Simple: Form

Definition

The Present Simple is used for facts, repeated actions (habits), and permanent states. It is the "default" tense for general truth.

Rule / Formula

Positive: Subject + Verb (+ s/es for He/She/It)

Negative: Subject + do/does + not + Verb (Base)

Question: Do/Does + Subject + Verb (Base)?

Examples

  • I *work* here. (Permanent)
  • She *eats* lunch at 1pm. (Habit)
  • Water *boils* at 100°C. (Fact)

Common Mistakes

  • Don't forget the 's' for He/She/It! (Correct: He *plays*. Wrong: He *play*.)
  • Don't use 'be' (is/are) with main verbs. (Wrong: He *is* play.)
