📖 Lesson: Perfect vs. Simple 1

The Golden Rule: Time

  • If you say WHEN it happened (Yesterday, 1999, Last week) -> Use Past Simple.
  • If the time is NOT MENTIONED or UNFINISHED (In my life, So far) -> Use Present Perfect.

Examples

  • Past Simple: I *saw* the movie *yesterday*. (Finished time)
  • Present Perfect: I *have seen* the movie. (Experience - time doesn't matter)
  • Past Simple: Shakespeare *wrote* plays. (He is dead - finished period)
  • Present Perfect: JK Rowling *has written* books. (She is alive - unfinished period)
